Avare Kaalu Uppittu - Version 2

This version has akki rave or rice rava used instead of bansi rava. this has a unique taste and is more filling than the bansi rave version. You can have it with pickles instead of rice meal and have it with chutney or sambar if you eat it for breakfast.

Ingredients:
Rice rave - 1 cup
Avare kaalu - 1 cup (Cooked in salted water)
Refined Oil or Ghee - 2 Tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 Tsp
Urad dal - 1 Tsp
Chana dal - 1 Tsp
Curry leaves - 1 Sprig
Green chilies - 2 Chopped
Chopped onion - 1/4 cup(Optional)
Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
Salt - to taste
Sugar - 1 Tsp
Water - 2.5 cups
Coriander leaves - A handful chopped


Method:
Pressure cook (or boil) avare kaalu in salted water and keep aside.
Roast rice rava till dry. Keep aside.
In a thick bottomed Kadai,  heat oil and add mustard seeds.
Allow them to splutter and then add the lentils. Roast till golden.
Now add the curry leaves, green chillies and onion.
Fry till the onions turn transparent.
Add water and bring to a boil.
Add salt, sugar, cooked avare kaalu and pour in the roasted rice rava slowly while mixing gently.
Cover and cook on low flame until all the water is absorbed.
Mix in the freshly grated coconut and coriander leaves.
Keep aside for 5-10 minutes and then serve hot with chutney, pickles, sambar or just with half a lemon squeezed over it.
