Green Peas Song

This song is not literally a song but a typical GSB spicy tangy curry based on Punjabi cuisine. We GSBs use potatoes and onions abundantly in our cooking. Song is also known as Phannaupkari. Though basic song has onions and potatoes in it, it can be prepared with many veggies like Green Peas, Thingalavare, Avare Kaalu, cauliflower, Paneer, Mushroom, Bhendi, tender Cashews or tender Pigeon Peas.
Green Peas song is prepared for wedding feast but there onion is avoided, keeping in mind the auspiscious religious ceremony and pooja performed at the function. Sometimes, cauliflower and tender cashew are mixed in such special song.

At home, we make green peas song with fresh green peas, onions and potatoes. We also add mustard seeds for the seasoning but you may just use chopped onions for the seasoning.

You may increase or reduce the amount of chilli powder and tamarind according to your taste. Optionally you may garnish the song with chopped coriander leaves. This song is a good accompaniment with steaming white rice and daalithoi.
